Elbow Joint Anatomy

Elbow Joint

Elbow joint is a hinge type of synovial joint. It moves in one direction (Flexion and extension).

It is the joint between the lower end of the humerus and the upper end of radius and ulna (Articulation of the trochlea of the humerus with the ulna and capitulum of the humerus with the head of a radius).

Ligaments of Elbow Joint:

          1.      RCL (Radial collateral ligament)

          2.      UCL (Ulnar collateral ligament)

          3.      Annular ligament

Location of ligaments:

         1.      The Ulnar collateral ligament is located in the medial or inner side of the elbow.

         2.      The Radial collateral ligament is located in the lateral or outer side of the elbow.

         3.      The annular ligament is around the head of the radius attached with the ulna.
